The responsibility of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is to provide reliable and up-to-date data for development planning and administrative activities of the country. BBS has been regularly collecting, compiling and publishing various data for the use of planners engaged in national and local planning, public and private research institutes, international organizations and the public. Recently National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS)and Statistics Act 2013 has been enacted. As a result the scope of work of BBS has been expanded. In view of this, the organizational structure of BBS has been redefined and work is underway to strengthen and rationalize it. Under Section 6 of the Statistics Act 2013, surveys have been completed in various census and socio-economic and demographic areas.
On 15-19 March 2011, the country's fifth census and household census was conducted. This is the first time that iCADE Software has been used and the 2011 census data has been processed on the ICR machine. By using digital method it is possible to give accurate results of census at the fastest time. 05 (five) national reports, 64 (sixty four) district reports and 64 community reports have been published under this census. Besides, 14 (fourteen) monographs and 01 (one) population projection reports have been prepared using the data of Census and Home Census 2011.
Under this project, Redatam software and primary data of census 2011 have been uploaded on the website of BBS through which users can prepare tables, graphs, charts etc. as per their needs. Apart from this project, ICT training has been arranged at the departmental level and furniture and various equipments have been provided to the field offices.
In March-May 2013, the third economic census data collection program was completed in Bangladesh. Economic census data is computerized at BBS headquarters in the shortest possible time using modern technology of the government established at the local level for the first time through the Union Information and Services Center (UISC) using high-powered software. A total of 66 reports will be published under the census, of which 01 National Report has been published, 01 Administrative Report and 64 Zila Reports have been published.
Under the Economic Census 2013 project, Business Register has been prepared. It will be used as the main framework for preparing the country's economic statistics. The Business Register will contain information on each establishment's name, address, legal structure, type of operations, number of manpower employed, average annual production, total assets, etc.
Economic Census 2013 has conducted the 'Expatriate Income Investment Survey 2016'. Through this survey, information has been collected about various sectors of investment of expatriate income, as well as information on various sectors of savings, information about expatriates and socio-economic status of households, which will play a significant role in making proper plans and recommendations for proper investment of expatriate income.
Moreover, preparations for the Integrated Agricultural Census 2018, including fisheries and livestock sectors, are underway. Final Report of Slum Census and Floating Census 2014 Program released. 126 crop volume and production estimates have been made on a regular basis on an annual basis. Land and Irrigation Statistics prepared.
Yearbook of Agricultural Statistics 2014 has been published. Under the Productivity Survey Programme, 9 crop surveys have been completed and reports prepared. Health and Morbidity Status Survey 2014, Education Household Survey, 2014, ICT Use and Access by Individuals and Household, 2013 Labor Force Survey, 2013 and the final report of the Quarterly Labor Force Survey under the Labor Market Information System Project has been published.
Vital Statistics of Bangladesh is published regularly based on the collection of data through 11 types of schedules from 2,012 sample areas selected across the country under the Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh (MSVSB) project.

Besides, regular publications of BBSA such as Statistical Pocket Book, Statistical Year Book and Monthly Statistical Bulletin are published regularly.
